Students at La Grande Middle School are continuing to focus on academics, sports and a few fun school activities this fall.

The school hosted a Grandparents Lunch in October, which was attended by about 75 grandparents. For the first year of this event, it was definitely a success. Principal Chris Wagner thanked Margaret Spence, Library Clerk at LMS, who facilitated the event, and the front office staff who checked all of the visitors in. “We were very happy with how lunch went, and we look forward to continuing this in future years."

LMS sports have been busy. Sixth grade football, new this year, had about 30 students participate. Wagner said the athletes learned a lot, and LMS leaders also learned about running the new program. Cross Country and Volleyball have enjoyed their seasons, too.

At the end of October are LMS Student-Led conferences. Students prepare materials about their academic progress and attendance, write their parents a letter and lead the conference with their parent and Advisory teacher. Wagner said, “We use this format to help teach LMS students to take responsibility for their work and communicate about it. We look forward to welcoming families into the building for the conferences and showing them what students have been doing.”

LMS will celebrate Red Ribbon Week November 3-7, a little later than usual due to conferences and the end of the quarter. This week to encourage students to live drug free will include dress up days/competitions and activities during lunch.
