La Grande School District Breaks Ground on Major New Project

(La Grande) – A Groundbreaking Ceremony in August will kick off an exciting new project for La Grande School District. The district event is on Tuesday, August 8th at 10 AM on the corner of 3rd Street and I Avenue, where the district will start building the first Tiger Home.

The project includes two townhouse units that will be built with support from La Grande High School students enrolled in construction classes. According to Superintendent George Mendoza, this project will provide hands-on, Career and Technical Education opportunities for LHS students, while also addressing critical housing needs in the La Grande community.

“We have been working on funding, logistics and making this exciting project a reality for several years now, and we look forward to celebrating the start of it with members of our community,” said Mendoza.

The public is invited to the Groundbreaking Ceremony.

La Grande School District would like to thank our growing list of Tiger Homes partners that includes: Contractor Gust Tsiatsos and the GCT Land Management Team, Senator Merkley, Jessica Keys, Grande Ronde Hospital, Woodgrain, Boise Cascade, Miller’s Home Center, The City of La Grande, Eastern Oregon University, Union County Commissioners, Curt Berger and Columbia Basin Student Homes, and Jon Dickover and Sherwood High Home Construction. The list is growing and La Grande School District appreciates all that have made it possible to start construction on these Tiger Homes this coming school year! La Grande School District and our partners are excited for the learning experiences our students will have working with our teacher Parker McKinley and the various tradespeople that are part of the La Grande community.
